I spent more than 25 years working in software, systems, and process improvement, earning three U.S. patents along the way. I like understanding how things work—and why they sometimes don’t.

That curiosity followed me into real estate, where I’ve completed more than 100 transactions as an investor and agent. It also shapes my work with business owners. Before recommending a tool, I want to understand what’s happening in the business.

I’ve immigrated twice, starting over in a new country each time. Leaving corporate work was a different kind of transition. I left a well-paying job before I was financially ready because my children needed me.

I was dealing with two legal battles and a very difficult personal situation, without a steady income. I had to keep taking action every day. Somewhere along the way, I rebuilt my corporate income. I didn’t even notice when it happened.

I lost more than $100,000 on my first joint-venture real estate deal. It was the only deal where I lost money at closing, because I was literally cut out of it. My forthcoming memoir, Cut Out of Closing, tells that story and what I learned from it.

These are the experiences I bring to speaking and writing: things I’ve tried, assumptions I’ve had to question, and lessons that may be useful to someone else. I don’t expect everyone to make the same choices I did.
